Overcomplicating things is nothing new. The search for the "silver bullet" is never ending (I mean look at the number of self-help/leadership books there are), and yet it seems like, in true human fashion, we look for a harder, more extravagant way while skipping the small details that would could implement right away.

So, here's one for you: "Do you have a minute?"

*cue heaven's bells*

Time is our most valuable resource, because every second we've ever had is lost, we don't know how much we have (except that it never seems like enough), and it's much harder to add to. Therefore, respecting that resource, in my opinion, is one of the best things you can do as a teammate, boss, employee, friend, stranger, you name it. Most times, it isn't a big deal to barge into your boss's door and ask a question, or get right on to what you need from a friend on the phone, but ALL times it will be appreciated when you add those simple 5 words before you get going.

So, thanks.

Thank you for having a minute.
